Alternatives

Samsara Alternatives, Compared

Samsara is a large connected-operations platform whose strength is native telematics and camera hardware with driver-safety and compliance programs, typically sold through a custom quote with hardware and a multi-year commitment. The right alternative depends on which part you are replacing: the tracking hardware, or the maintenance software attached to it.

Import from Samsara in minutes

Already running Samsara? Torgix brings your assets over, and can keep syncing hours and location live through the Samsara integration.

Re-running an import is always safe: duplicates are matched, never doubled.

By what you need

The alternatives, by what you are actually replacing

If you are replacing the telematics and cameras

Motive is the most common direct rival for trucking-centric fleets, with dash cams and driver safety at the core. Geotab is telematics-first with a large integration marketplace. Verizon Connect is the carrier-scale option for large vehicle fleets. All three, like Samsara, pair hardware with subscription software; compare them on camera quality, ELD compliance, and total hardware cost.

If you are replacing the maintenance side, not the tracking

Torgix is software-only Equipment Intelligence for equipment-intensive operators. It is not a telematics vendor: it consumes hours and location from whatever providers are already on your machines, including Samsara, and focuses on what Samsara does not: true cost of ownership per asset, engine-hour preventive maintenance, parts ordering from a 1.4M+ catalog inside the work order, and rental revenue. Flat tier pricing from $99/month, unlimited users at every tier, no multi-year contract.

Fleetio is the established software-only fleet maintenance platform, priced per asset, strongest for on-road and light mixed fleets. See Fleetio alternatives.

If inspections are the real problem

Whip Around turns driver phone inspections into maintenance tickets, with a permanent free tier for a single asset. The right answer when DVIRs and failed inspections, not maintenance scheduling, drive the search.

The honest caveat

When Samsara is still the right answer

If cameras, driver safety, and ELD compliance drive the purchase and you want one vendor for hardware and software, Samsara is built for exactly that at scale, and none of the software-only options replicate it. The case for an alternative is strongest when the maintenance and cost side is what falls short, when hardware-per-asset economics fail across off-road equipment, or when a multi-year quoted contract does not fit how you buy.

Common questions

Samsara alternatives, answered

What is the best Samsara alternative?
It depends which part of Samsara you are replacing. For telematics, cameras, and compliance, the direct rivals are Motive, Geotab, and Verizon Connect. For maintenance depth without buying hardware, Fleetio (per asset) or Torgix (flat, unlimited users). For inspections and DVIRs specifically, Whip Around.
Is there a Samsara alternative without hardware?
Yes. Fleetio, Whip Around, and Torgix are software-only. Torgix is additionally telematics-agnostic: it consumes hours and location from providers you already run, including Samsara itself.
Does Torgix replace Samsara?
Not for GPS, cameras, or ELD compliance; Torgix does not sell hardware. It replaces the maintenance and cost side: work orders, engine-hour PMs, true cost of ownership per asset, and parts ordering, and it can consume Samsara telematics data. Some operations run both.

Before you decide

Software changes what your maintenance costs. It does not change what your machines cost you to own and run today, and that is the number this decision should start from. Work yours out in a couple of minutes, free and with no sign up.
